Pragmatic Web Design: Our new one day workshop

We are delighted to announce the first ever Viewport Industries workshop! Pragmatic Web Design is a one-day course hosted by us — Messrs Whitaker and Stocks — and aims to remove some of the myths surrounding modern web design, covering modern areas of practice such as:

  • Responsive design: a pragmatic approach
  • Tomorrow’s web type today: the possibilities of future-facing typographic enhancements
  • Using jQuery to enhance the multi-platform experience
  • WordPress skills for designers
  • SASS and other essential tools for writing better CSS
  • Collaborative workflow
  • Code management and deployment

VI Workshops are designed to be intimate, unique, reasonably priced, and full of vaulable take-away tips for designers and front-end developers. We’ve both attended and run workshops in the past and wanted to try something a bit different. We’re limiting spaces to 25 — which keeps it cosy and allows everyone to get involved — and we’ve chosen a great venue for the day. We fell in love with it as soon as we saw it and we know you’ll feel the same.

Where? The School of Life

We host our workshops in The School of Life, a very cool little venue (co-owned by none other than Alain De Botton) just a few minutes’ walk from St. Pancras in the heart of London. Look at those amazing walls!

When? Monday 6th August

Our first ‘Pragmatic Web Design’ workshop will be on Monday 6th August. Registration and coffee will be from 9am for a 9.30 start. All being well we should be finished by 5-5.30. If you’d like to attend you can register now. (The second workshop on the same topic will be held on Monday 3rd December.)

How much? £199 + VAT

We know attending workshops can often be prohibitive, which is why we’ve decided to offer places for just £199 + VAT. This includes a full day’s workshop, light refreshments, and a delicious lunch at one of the great local restaurants around the corner. We’re sure a post-workshop beer or two will be enjoyed as well!

So join us for a full day of sharing, learning, and socialising! If you have any questions please feel free to drop a comment in below or alternatively please email Keir directly at keir@viewportindustries.com.

Register a seat for Monday 6th August: £199 + VAT

Register for Monday 3rd December: You can book your place for Monday 3rd December on our dedicated Amiando page.

Andrés Botero

Great! idea. Thanks for this great opportunity.

Keir Whitaker

@Andres Botero – No problem! Are you thinking of coming along?

Jamie Huskisson

I’ve just bought a ticket for one of our junior front-end designer/developers – this sounds like it’ll be a fantastic learning opportunity. I’m looking forward to seeing what it brings to our processes and what he gets out of it :)

Keir Whitaker

@Jamie Huskisson – Thanks a lot for booking on, we really appreciate it.

Tristan

Sounds like a great day. If you ever host one in Melbourne, I’m in =D Good luck with it!

Renato Alves

It’s a shame that here in Brazil we don’t have great workshop like you guys from London. :(

Mirco Moretti

Hi guys!

My wishes for the official debut. As Renato said… it’s a shame to miss opportunity to participate.

If you’re planning a video recording of the event to buy… well! I think it’ll please all your followers, me first. :)

Justin Avery

Awesome opportunity for anyone that can make it! Unfortunately the trip from Australia blows the cost out for us a bit too much, but we’ll throw this up on the responsive design weekly newsletter for you.

Keir Whitaker

@Justin Avery – Thanks for putting it in your newsletter, really appreciate it. I have just signed up.

Keir Whitaker

@Renato Alves – Sorry! We are of course open to offers to come to Brazil! Maybe one day.

Keir Whitaker

@Tristan – Do you think it would go well, I am certainly not averse to looking into it :)

Keir Whitaker

@Micro Moretti – Thanks a lot. We hadn’t thought about that to be honest but we are planning on producing something that you will be able to grab later in the year. Stay tuned!

Elisabeth Irgens

Looks absolutely brilliant, I would love to join. Ah, perhaps in December…

David Fitzgibbon

Would really love to go but couldnt afford the trip to England too.

Have you guys got any plans to do something in Dublin? There are very few good tech events on over here and the appetite is huge to get some people over who know what they’re at!

Rochelle Dancel

Just registered – really excited and looking forward to a great day :)

Matt Styles

Sounds like a great day, think I’m interested in every topic! I can’t make this workshop (unfortunately) , any plans to release any notes (or sell notes) from the presentations? Best of luck on the day – I’m sure it’ll be a hit

Mark Muggeridge
